#1 –  OLIVER QUEEN – THE GREEN ARROW

The Oliver Queen of the comics, has always been presented as a spoiled, thrill-seeking playboy, until the moment he was left stranded on a deserted island for several years. There, he trained to become a master archer in order to survive. After his return home, he used his skills to become the costumed vigilante called Green Arrow to dispense justice.

In the series,  in 2012, Oliver returned to Starling City after being stranded on a remote island for five years, much to the surprise of everyone as he was assumed dead alongside his father. On the island, Oliver learned to fend for himself and discovered the dark secrets his father kept and tried to atone for, and so upon Oliver’s return, he became a green-hooded vigilante archer known by the Starling City populace as The Hood.

My name is Oliver Queen. For five years, I was stranded on an island with only one goal: survive. Now I will fulfill my father’s dying wish – to use the list of names he left me and bring down those who are poisoning my city. To do this, I must become someone else. I must become something else.“—Oliver Queen (Season 1 intro)

#2 || FELICITY SMOAK

In the comics, Felicity Smoak was the manager of a computer software firm in New York City. During one of the numerous metahuman battles that take place in Manhattan, the Firestorm inadvertently magnetized an expensive cache of software programs. This nearly destroyed Felicity’s business and was one of several incidents in which she found herself enraged at the reckless hero. Firestorm retaliated against Felicity’s accusatory behavior by transforming her clothes into soap suds. As a result, Felicity brought a lawsuit against Firestorm. During this time, Felicity developed a romantic relationship with reporter Ed Raymond. She had no idea that Ed’s son Ronnie comprised one-half of the Firestorm gestalt entity. Over time, Felicity and Ed fell deeply in love and were married. After her wedding to Ed Raymond, Felicity learned the truth about Ronnie Raymond’s dual identity, but by this point, she had forgiven him for his past transgressions and came to support his career as Firestorm.

Recently DC Comics, relaunch the character (now inspired by the series) is in the current  Green Arrow 35 and  the new Arrow 2.5

On Arrow, Felicity makes her first appearance as an IT tech at Queen Consolidated that Oliver Queen asks for help. She is an expert hacker and helps Oliver several times (unknowingly) with his Vigilante business, before Oliver finally goes to her for help after he had gotten shot. After learning about his secret identity, Felicity joins Oliver’s team.

Felicity’s one-time-only-appearance minor character became a recurring character who grew in importance until she became one of the very few people he trust and be himself with.

#4 | AMANDA WALLER AKA THE WALL

In the Comics, Amanda “The Wall” Waller is a hardline top-ranking U.S. Government agent involved in clandestine operations. Despite her non-threatening physical appearance, she is almost universally feared as one of the most ruthless women in espionage and politics. She created and runs the Suicide Squad, a team of super-villains running missions for the government in exchange for reduced prison sentences.

In Arrow Amanda Waller is the leader of A.R.G.U.S. and the Suicide Squad. For unknown reasons, Waller sought out Yao Fei on the island of Lian Yu. She maintained radio contact with Edward Fyers. On the island she had been shipping military weapons for generally unknown reasons, though at least one reason was to redirect cargo headed for China, indefinitely halting trade with China, causing the economy to fall. Right before this, Edward contacted her and told her how the plan was coming together. However, the plan soon failed due to Oliver Queen and Slade Wilson’s intervention, and Fyers and all of his men were killed.
Amanda would later capture Oliver and sent him to China after he fought and supposedly killed Slade. Although the situation has yet to be shown, it was obviously ends badly as Amanda later asks Oliver (Chronologically – Season 2) if he was still mad at her and was apparently shocked Oliver wanted to kill someone else more than her. Unfortunately, we’ll never know many details about her future on Arrow, since she was killed abruptly due to the character appearance in an upcoming Warner Bros movie (Suicide Squad)

“I spoke to [showrunner] Beth [Schwartz] a little bit about that and I hope so, because those were some of my favorite parts about Dinah’s story, seeing little bits and pieces of where she came from. There are like little things that they drop that I love that are these little gems, like in Season 5 mentioning that she liked to garden. She found an apartment with a garden. I love all those little things about Dinah that show her — just the minutia of her character that you would not expect. So I hope for more stuff like that. I’ve been pushing the band. She has a band in the comics, so I keep bringing up she should start something musical. I would love that”

In case you haven’t read it or seen the movie, this is a very short summary of the story:

They become as father and son, and when the Abbé is about to die, he reveals to Dantès the hiding place of a long-secret buried treasure.

After fourteen years of bitter imprisonment and hardships, and after a very daring and miraculous escape (he’s mistaken for a dead man and his body is thrown to the ocean).

#7 – Oliver’s child | Arrow Easter Eggs

In S2 Ep. “Seeing reed” is revealed that a woman (later known as Samantha Calyton) had a very short affair (one-night-stand) with Oliver Queen. He ultimately got her pregnant, and was paid by Moira to pretend she’d lost it and move away to Central City.  Later Oliver discover his existence and tries to get close to him. When Samantha dies tragically Oliver gets full custody of William.

In the comics, Oliver Queen had a son, Connor, with a woman named Sandra Moonday Hawke. Years later, Connor Hawke becomes the second Green Arrow, one of the greatest martial artists in the DC Universe and an excellent archer. His father is Oliver Queen and his mother is a woman named Moonday Hawke. Queen abandoned him at an early age because he was not yet ready to be a father, but they rekindled their relationship later on in life and Connor forgave him. Growing up in an ashram, he was raised on Buddhist philosophy, although he has no problem with physical violence. He has been a member of Team Arrow and the Justice League.

Curiously, Milo Armitage, the arms-dealer (also a character on Arrow)  becomes Connor Hawke’s stepfather.

One last thing, it seems the Arrow writers chose the William’s name in homage to another legendary archer: William Tell…
